To all my fellow DePauw musicians and alumni,
My
wife, Marilyn Mead Priser ’63, and I have had the marvelous experience for the
past three years of returning to the campus and play with the Tiger Alumni Bands
and Stumblebums. I was a member of the DePauw Marching Band (1962 Tarnished
Spitvalve award recipient) and Concert Band during my undergraduate days of
1959-1963. When we accepted with some trepidation the invitation to play with
the current student band members of the undergraduate Tiger Pep Band as well as
fellow alumni, faculty, family, and community members, we did so in order to
participate as active supporters of the University. We even traveled, at our
own expense, with the Tiger Alumni Bands and Tiger Pep Band to Memphis
in March, 2007, to support our men’s and women’s basketball teams in the SCAC
tournament. We were very proud to have played for our alma mater as the women
won both the SCAC tournament and DePauw’s first-ever national team championship.
We are most
grateful to Adam Hilkert ’08 and Ashley Myers '10, the
current undergraduate Tiger Pep Band student directors, and Dr. Valarie
Ziegler, their faculty adviser, for their encouragement to be active
alumni participants.
Daniel
Reck ’03 and David Ziemba '03, the TABS directors, have been extremely
active in encouraging everyone who has ever been involved at DePauw musically
or otherwise, to consider becoming an active participant with the Tiger Alumni
Bands and Stumblebums. They are extremely dedicated to involving alumni
throughout the DePauw “nation” to become active with our beloved university. Marilyn
and I strongly encourage you to join in the fun and excitement of being an
active alumnus in supporting DePauw University. “Here’s to DePauw”.
