Tiger Musicians Will Miss Dr. Stanley Irwin Print E-mail

Dr. Stanley Irwin, 67June 1, 2008 -- GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Dr. Stanley Irwin, a professor of voice at DePauw University who was critically injured in an automobile accident on Wednesday, died yesterday afternoon at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Dr. Irwin was on the School of Music faculty for 33 years, and was a  istinguished and renowned bass-baritone who had performed at Carnegie  Hall, the Lincoln Center, the White House, among many other venues domestic and international.  He was perhaps best known to the students and alumni of DePauw as the kind gentleman who led graduates in singing A Toast To DePauw, our alma mater, at the annual commencement exercises.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle. On Friday, June 6, an 11:00 AM, Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, also in Greencastle, will host a memorial service.
